LPG - Cheaper, better for environment BUT conversion subsidy likely to be dumped.
04-04-2008 News.com.au. The LPG Vehicle Scheme grants are likely to be scraped, in order to pay for the promised tax cuts.
As of 23 of March 2008 113,493 $2000 grants were paid for conversions and 907 $1000 for new vehicles with LPG units. Apart from the fact that it is cheaper for struggling families, LPG is better for the environment and it reduces our dependence on foreign oil.
LPG vehicles produce 15% less greenhouse gas, up to 50% less particulate matter, up to 60% less carbon monoxide, up to 33% less oxides of nitrogen, virtually zero evaporative emissions of hydrocarbons and up to 80% less air toxics like benzene and 1,3 butadiene.
But axing the subsidy could potentially save 400 million (66 million per year).
The promised tax cuts will be about 32 Billion. News Article
