Fuel Watch Scheme to apply as from 15th December 2008

15-04-2008 SMH. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced today the Fuel Watch scheme, which has operated in Western Australia since 2000, will apply nationally from December 15. The new laws will require oil companies to publish their prices by about 2pm for the next 24 hour period, which starts the next morning. It does not mean price fluctuations of 10 - 15 cents per litre will be a thing of the past. We'll just get up to 16 hours notice of a change. The Government hopes the motorist could possibly save perhaps up to 2c per litre. The PM said he did not want us to pay 1 cent more than "absolutely necessary". If true, we call on the government to scrap the GST on fuel; on today's prices that would save about 14 cents per litre. - Or the excise; that would save 38.14 cents per litre. It would also reduce inflation. News Article
